Liverpool to open talks with Benfica for Antonio Silva after the World Cup

Liverpool are tipped to open talks with Benfica for the potential transfer of Antonio Silva after the World Cup to steal a march ahead of the other suitors in the fray.

The 19-year-old centre-back has grown into one of the top talents across Europe following his meteoric rise since August when he made his debut in the Benfica shirt and earned rave reviews for his stellar run of displays.

According to a report from A Bola ( via The Daily Express), it is claimed that the Reds, who are keen on landing the teenager’s coveted signature in the near future, are planning to go into negotiations with Benfica once the World Cup comes to an end.

Jurgen Klopp is on the search for viable options to add more depth to his defensive ranks with Joel Matip’s injury troubles and Joe Gomez’s inconsistent form convincing the Liverpool head coach to scout the market for reinforcements.

A price tag of £52 million on Silva’s head makes him an attractive buy for the interested parties, which includes the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool would be open to meeting that valuation.
