Liverpool trio Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Curtis Jones tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the matchup against Newcastle United on Thursday night.
The players were sidelined for the game which turned out to be a comfortable win for the Anfield giants on home turf with goals from Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold sealing the three points.
A statement from the club’s official website sounded out Fabinho, Curtis Jones and Virgil van Dijk were in line to miss the Premier League fixture following suspected positive tests for COVID-19.
It was further confirmed by the club that the Liverpool set-up, including all players and backroom staff members, had been tested for COVID-19 again with no further positive cases apart from the aforementioned three players.
Liverpool await a stern festive schedule with a trip to the English capital this weekend to take on Tottenham Hotspur in league action followed up by the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday against Leicester City at Anfield.
