Liverpool vs. Chelsea: Possible Starting Eleven for Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will take on fellow EPL giants Chelsea as both sides meet in the UEFA Super Cup match. The match will be held in Istanbul, Turkey as the Champions League winners (Liverpool) face Europa League winners (Chelsea).

The Blues hammered Arsenal in the final 4-1 to set up an interesting encounter with Jürgen Klopp’s men even as the Blues face scrutiny after their defeat against Manchester United on the opening day of the Premier League. For the first time, a major men’s football match will be officiated by a woman, French referee Stephanie Frappart.

As for Liverpool, they must earn the respect knowing that Chelsea is a big side needing response after their EPL ouster on Sunday. On this note, we evaluate the possible starting line for Liverpool ahead of the fixture.

With goalkeeper Alisson Becker injured and out for up to 6 weeks, Adrian would be expected to be in goal.

Croatian center-back Dejan Lovren is out of the team due to illness and would not be a part of this game as Virgil Van Dijk should marshal the Liverpool defense. The likes of Joe Gomez and Alexander-Arnold would be expected to keep their place while also having Andrew Robertson started at the wing-back position for Liverpool.

Liverpool would be expected to start with the trio of Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Georgino Wijnaldum as Guinea star Naby Kieta gradually gets back into the thick of the action for Liverpool shirt after returning from injury-laden participation from the African Cup of Nations for Guinea.

Liverpool started the last two matches of the new season with the trio of Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Star forward Mohamed Salah as we have seen both in the Community Shield match against English Champions Manchester City while they all started in the EPL opener against Norwich City with Origi and Salah finding the net in the 4-1 win at Anfield.

Sadio Mane came on as a substitute in the 74th minutes and is expected to start against Chelsea thus replacing Divock Origi in a three-man attack – Mane, Salah-Firmino.

Liverpool should line up in Jurgen Klopp’s familiar 4-3-3 formation

Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk, Gomez, Andrew Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Mane, Firmino and Mo Salah
