Liverpool restored their six-point lead over Manchester City in the table by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Anfield. Spurs took the lead at the start of the first half when Son’s shot deflected off Lovren and fell to Kane after cannoning off the crossbar who instinctively headed past Alisson. But Liverpool fought back and had several opportunities before they finally equalized when Henderson found himself in the box and volleyed the ball past Gazzaniga.
The reds then took the lead when Serge Aurier clumsily fouled Mane in the penalty area to win Liverpool penalty which was dispatched by Mo Salah.
Alisson 6
Could do nothing about Tottenham’s opening goal when Son’s shot deflected off Lovren and then off the post to fall to Harry Kane who finished it well. He was lucky not to concede at the start of the second half when Son skipped past him but shot straight at the crossbar.
Looked lively throughout the game pinning long balls to the forwards. Switched play well and Could have scored in the first half but his shot was well saved by Gazzaniga. Caught out of position a few times and was given a test by Son.
Surprise start for the Croatian and responded well. Could do nothing when Son’s shot deflected off him and led to Tottenham’s opening goal. Dominant in the air but was troubled by Son’s pace
Never looked tested all game. Dealt with Tottenham’s long balls with relative ease and played some good passes into midfield.
Played some loose passes and wasn’t at this best but gave Tottenham’s right-back Serge Aurier a hard time all game with his overlapping runs.
Fabinho 7.5
Dictated the tempo of the game. Never looked fazed on the occasion and is a joy to watch. Played some brilliant passes for the full-backs in dangerous areas.
Jordan Henderson 7
Didn’t look comfortable playing on the right of a midfield three in the first half. Grew into the game in the second half and scored with a lovely finish after he ghosted behind Davinson Sanchez to slot the ball in for Liverpool’s equalizer.
Not his finest performance in a Liverpool shirt but worked incredibly hard all game. He should have shot the first time when he had the chance in the second half but took too long and allowed the Spurs defenders to get back behind. Subbed in the second half.
Sadio Mane 7.5
Another Solid performance from the Senegalese winger. The Spurs defenders just couldn’t get him off the ball at times in the game. Won the penalty in the second half when he invited the challenge from Aurier.
He looked the most confident player on the field. Could have had an assist in the first half when he showed lovely skill to set up Salah’s shot which was saved by Gazzaniga.
Mo Salah 6.5
Was anonymous for large parts of the game and looks a little out of sorts at the moment. Had several opportunities in the first half but failed to capitalize. Scored the penalty when he slotted the ball past Gazzaniga. Went off injured late in the second half
