Liverpool host Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday as the game promises lots of goals and late drama. Liverpool came back to winning ways as they beat a dodgy Genk side 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League game on Wednesday. They saw their 17 game winning streak come to an end as Manchester United held them to a 1-1 draw last time out in the League.
The game has history to be a highly scoring game as the ‘modern-day’ rivalry has seen the likes of Kane, Suarez and Sturridge score plenty of goals in the fixture. Last season Liverpool won the game by a whisker as Toby Alderweireld scored into his own net at the 90th minute mark to give the Reds all three points.
For the Reds, this is the fourth top 6 side they play before Christmas and the Merseyside outfit have managed their big games very well – a 1-2 win at Chelsea and a 3-1 at home to Arsenal.
The Spurs derailment has been quite evident this season and this has piked a lot of pressure on Boss Mauricio Pochettino. There have been wild rumors that he has lost the confidence of his dressing room and will be shown the door soon. They have just 2 wins in 8 games and team morale looked really low until the 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday.
PREDICTED LINE-UPS:
Liverpool had doubts over the fitness of Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip. Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is fit after the illness which caused him to miss the Champions League game. Joel Matip is still doubtful on the game and Klopp wouldn’t want to risk the Cameroon international who has been in top form.
Andrew Robertson is also ready to play. Salah and Mane combined well on Wednesday night and Anfield faithful would want the duo to regain their deadly form to finish off Spurs. Fit again Alisson would continue in goal.
Predicted Line-Ups:
Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane 4-3-3
Spurs dealt a huge blow when captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris took a hit in the game against Brighton before the international break and was subsequently ruled out for the year.
Paulo Gazzaniga continues in goal for the Londoners in Lloris’ absence. Heung-Min Son and Kane would be shouldered with the responsibilities for sharing the attack and the Three Lions forward would want to continue his fine form against the Reds. Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy N’Dombele would be operating from the centre.
Predicted Line-Ups:
Gazzaniga, Aurier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Sissoko, N’Dombele, Eriksen, Son, Moura, Kane 4-2-3-1
