Liverpool willing to pay £51.2m for Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente

Liverpool’s interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente has resurfaced once again. The Spanish international was previously linked with a move to Liverpool in November 2022, but he preferred to stay with the financially troubled Atletico Madrid.

According to Spanish source Fichajes, both Liverpool and Manchester United have shown interest in signing a 28-year-old midfielder during this summer transfer window.

It is reported that Liverpool possesses significant financial resources that could potentially persuade Atletico Madrid and manager Diego Simeone to sell their prized asset in the current window.

Liverpool could offer a fee of £51.2 million, which would aid Atletico in addressing their financial concerns.

Llorente is a versatile player capable of performing in various midfield positions and can also fill in as a right-back if necessary. He notably scored a brace at Anfield, eliminating Liverpool, the defending champions, from the UEFA Champions League in 2020.

During the 2020-21 season, Llorente made direct contributions to 23 goals, playing a crucial role in Atletico Madrid’s La Liga title triumph at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Despite his successful past performances in a central role, Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has not utilized Marcos Llorente in that position as frequently.

During the previous season, the Spanish international predominantly played on the right side of the midfield, contributing with three goals and three assists in 29 appearances.

Liverpool, having already signed two creative midfielders, are in need of a defensive midfielder, and Llorente could effectively fill that role as a play breaker.

Considering the reported fee of £51.2 million, the question arises as to whether Liverpool should make such an investment to secure the services of the former Real Madrid player.

In your opinion, do you believe it would be wise for the Reds to spend such a significant amount on signing Marcos Llorente?
