Efforts made by the Liverpool camp to land the signature of Atletico Madrid first-team winger Matheus Cunha have been turned down.
According to reports from the Spanish news publication AS, it is claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders were keen on a move for Cunha in the final days of the January transfer window ahead of Monday’s deadline.
Atletico Madrid, however, were quick to dismiss Liverpool’s interest in the 22-year-old Brazilian forward who is tipped for a bright future in the Spanish capital in the years to come.
Liverpool have been hard at work in the transfer market on the lookout for reinforcements in the final third to help shore up an underwhelming attacking roster at Klopp’s disposal which has lost Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to the Africa Cup of Nations of late.
Luis Diaz is the top name on the Anfield giants’ wishlist and the Porto dangerman looks set to make the switch to England’s top flight with Liverpool in line to complete the signing and tie Diaz to a five-year-long deal.
