Liverpool was unable to defeat Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Saturday evening, putting their title chances in jeopardy.
Jordan Henderson has stated that he has no issues with Liverpool’s performance against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Heung-min Son’s initial goal stunned Jurgen Klopp’s team in the second half, but they fought to equalize through Luis Diaz’s deflected strike.
The Reds were ultimately unable to produce a winning goal to keep the pressure on Manchester City in the title chase.
Pep Guardiola’s side currently has the upper hand in the title battle and may go three points clear of Liverpool if they beat Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
Despite missing out on regaining a two-point lead at the top of the table, Henderson believes his squad had enough opportunities to win.
“Overall, I thought the performance level was really good again. The energy levels were good, the counter-press was really good and the reaction when we lost the ball. We would have probably wanted to create a few more chances, but we still created a couple as well: Virgil hit the bar and we had a couple of others we could have scored from.”
“The performance level was good, but we will be disappointed with the result. I thought the performance level was good and we just have to keep going and performing. If we do that, we will win more than we don’t.”
On Tuesday, the Reds will face another tough test in Aston Villa, where they will meet club veteran Steven Gerrard for the second time this season.
The Liverpool skipper is well aware of the dangers the West Midlands side will offer, and he knows that standards must not be compromised.
“We’ve got to go again on Tuesday, in another tough game. If the performance level is high, hopefully, we can get the three points.”
Nevertheless, the not winning the game at Anfield was two points dropped for the Reds rather than a point earned in another exciting title fight from Liverpool, who now has a huge dent in their hopes of winning it.
Though with the remaining two games in hand, Liverpool will need to keep the fight going in the league run and hope the defending champions slip up in their last three outings.
