Liverpool’s interest in re-signing Philippe Coutinho on a loan basis has been played down by The Athletic’s journalist James Pearce.
Coutinho called it quits at Anfield midway through the 2017-18 campaign to make the move to La Liga giants FC Barcelona in a mega-money move despite Jurgen Klopp’s attempts to retain his star playmaker’s services.
There has been the talk doing the rounds that the Reds will look to land their former midfield maestro who is an outcast in the Camp Nou fold in the build-up to the forthcoming January transfer window.
Reports from The Athletic, however, quote James Pearce who has dismissed the speculation of Klopp scouting the market for reinforcements to bolster his ranks leading towards the business end of the campaign in which Liverpool are poised to compete for title glory.
The manner of Coutinho’s exit, claims Pearce, makes it unlikely for Liverpool to position themselves as frontrunners for the Brazil international with the likes of Newcastle United and Arsenal also in the mix for his signature.
