Liverpool’s Money Boost Can Be A Springboard Next Season

Liverpool Football Club is preparing for a big summer rebuild, and a big jump in prize money can definitely help. Arsenal and Manchester City wins made sure Liverpool will be in the Premier League next year.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool pushed hard to win the title most of this season.

They’d even been top of the pack for a spell. But defeats to Manchester United, Crystal Palace, and Everton dropped them out of the title hunt.

Liverpool still has two games left this season – against Aston Villa on Monday and Wolves next weekend. But no matter what happens next, Liverpool’s spot in the Premier League ranks is set. They’ll end up third in the league, 11 points ahead of Aston Villa, who’s in fourth place.

Next season, the task for new Liverpool manager Arne Slot will be to make them title contenders once more. How well that mission goes depends in large part on what Liverpool does this summer.

Luckily for Liverpool, their spot in third in the league means they get a big bump in prize cash. The Premier League, the most money-filled in the world, shares about £2.5 billion among all 20 teams, with each spot up the ladder getting millions more than the one below.

Each position in the table is worth around £2.2m more than the one below. The broadcast money is split almost exactly evenly between the clubs. Those whose games are screened live more frequently in the UK do earn a bit more. Still, all 20 clubs get an equal basic payment from TV rights, worth more than £80m last season.

Last season, Liverpool took an estimated £161.2m for coming fifth in the league. The exact figure they will get this time is yet to be determined, but the side that finished third last year got £165m.

In addition to its league payments, Liverpool is estimated to take £27m for reaching the last eight of the Europa League. That means the club will have picked up just over £190m in prize money ahead of the summer transfer window.

The huge financial boost Liverpool is going to get will surely help Liverpool plans in the coming season. As they have a new manager with a considerable amount of money in his pocket, it will be exciting to see how Liverpool face the summer transfer window and prepares for the next season.
