Long-term Reds midfield target made available for €50 million this summer

Amid Liverpool FC transfer rumours, Borussia Monchengladbach will allow midfielder Denis Zakaria to leave the club for €50 million this summer. The Swiss international has been courted by a number of top clubs, including the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea.

The Bundesliga outfit’s sporting director Max Eberl had stated in the past that the club would not be selling any of their star players this summer. However, it seems as if Monchengladbach may be forced in the sale of Zakaria, despite their initial reluctance.

The 23-year old Swiss holding midfielder has been a steady presence for the Bundesliga side this season. Making more than 30 appearances for the Die Borussen, Zakaria has come across with two goals and two assists. Moreover, the player has become the most important midfield option at Marco Rose’s disposal in the Monchengladbach squad.

The Reds are reportedly long-term admirers of Zakaria, with Jurgen Klopp being left impressed by the young midfielder’s ability. Speculation indicates that the Merseyside giants have even initiated talks with the 23-year old’s representatives over a possible move to Anfield.

However, the €50 million price-tag quoted by Monchengladbach is likely to end Liverpool FC’s interest in pursuing Zakaria’s transfer, at least for the time being. Jurgen Klopp is highly unlikely to greenlight an approach for the Swiss international for the stipulated asking price.

The Liverpool FC boss could, however, attempt to sign Zakaria next summer. By then the Reds would have shaken off the adverse financial impact brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, the current midfield at Liverpool FC is well-stocked in every aspect of the game. Making a move for Zakaria this summer certainly does not seem wise for Klopp and the Reds.

Zakaria’s existing deal with Monchengladbach runs for another two years. If Liverpool FC are in the market for the Swiss midfielder next summer, signing the player then would cost the Merseyside club much less. The 23-year old’s playing style make him a worthy successor for Jordan Henderson’s role in the coming years.
