Liverpool’s stuttering start to the season was handed another blow with Jurgen Klopp’s side falling to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in Monday night’s game at Old Trafford.

The home side started the opening period strongly and came close to finding the lead when Elanga made the run in behind the Liverpool backline but his strike hit the woodwork.
United did not have to wait for long to get the opener with Jadon Sancho’s brilliant footwork allowing him to slot the ball into the far corner of the net to make it 1-0.
Liverpool’s Luis Diaz came close with his effort curling just wide while Marcus Rashford was stopped in his tracks by Joe Gomez on the other end of the pitch.
Eric ten Hag’s men doubled their advantage early in the second half with Anthony Martial playing Rashford through on goal as the latter made no mistake in slotting his shot past Alisson.
David de Gea denied Diaz while Alisson produced a strong palm to keep out Rashford’s effort with Liverpool making frantic attempts to find a way back into the game.
Fabio Carvalho’s strike in the aftermath of a corner was kept out by De Gea but Salah was quick to respond with a header to pull one back for his side which proved to be inadequate for Liverpool to salvage something from the game.
