Liverpool striker Sadio Mane has revealed the inspiration behind his rise to the top after cementing himself as an integral part of an increasingly dominant side in the Premier League as well as Europe.
The 27-year-old winger won the 2019 CAF African Player of the Year award last month and also helped the Reds to success in the Champions League back in June.
In 36 Premier League appearances last year, Mane scored 24 goals and provided another six assists, and Jurgen Klopp’s side is now 22 points clear at the summit of the Premier League table after finishing runners-up in the 2018-19 campaign.
Mane made the move to Anfield from south coast club Southampton in the summer of 2016 and the Senegalese superstar has cited the support of his friends and family back home in the village of Bambali as key to his sparkling run of form.
While speaking to the club’s official website, Mane explained the main reason why he is enjoying a successful spell is mainly due to the people that pushed his boundaries, “I can’t describe how they are and how motivated they are especially. They always push me, If you see those people, you push hard and harder to make them proud because it’s the only satisfaction they have on it. I have to give back what they have done for me.”
Mane has been out on the sidelines for Liverpool ever since suffering a hamstring problem in a 2-1 win over Wolverhapton Wanderers at the Molineaux Stadium but has returned to full training this week.
