Sadio Mane has won the PFA Fan’s Player of the Month award for August and very deservedly so. The Senegalese has been crucial to Liverpool’s 100% start to the campaign. He has scored 4 goals already, 3 of them being in August. Mane scored two on the opening day against West Ham as the Reds romped to a 4-0 win. Mane scored another at Selhurst Park, allowing Liverpool a win on their “bogey” ground.
All the teams that Liverpool have faced as of yet, have their defenders completely marking Salah. This allows Mane to find a lot of space on the opposite flank. The Senegalese has made excellent use of it making sure Liverpool continue with their scoring spree.
Marcos Alonso(Chelsea), Sergio Aguero(Manchester City), Neil Etheridge(Cardiff), Pereyra(Watford), Van Dijk(Liverpool) and Lucas Moura were also nominated for this monthly award. However, Sadio Mane had an overwhelming victory as he got more than 58% of the total votes.
Mane has also been nominated for the more recognized EA Sports Player of the Month award along with his club-mate Van Dijk. Jurgen Klopp has been nominated for the Manager of the Month award and Liverpool could be looking at a clean-sweep as they are favourites in both the categories.
Liverpool could win these two monthly awards going into a tough schedule after the international break. Liverpool face Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City in their next 5 League matches. They also face PSG and Napoli in the Champions League in this phase. To add to the difficulty, Liverpool have been drawn with Chelsea for the League Cup Round 3 fixture. These are 3 weeks that could absolutely make or break Liverpool’s season.
