Marco Grujic set to return to Anfield following the end of his loan spell in Germany

Liverpool FC loanee Marco Grujic is set to return to Anfield after spending two seasons on loan at Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin. The German outfit confirmed that the Serbian midfielder will be heading back to his parent club on the expiry of his loan deal with them.

Grujic has been an integral part of the Hertha Berlin side over the past two seasons with the player hoping that his great run of performances in the Bundesliga could make him a part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans for Liverpool FC in the upcoming season.

Grujic had never attempted to hide his inner desires to return to the Premier League and play for the Reds. The Serbian who was signed by Jurgen Klopp from Red Star Belgrade back in 2016 has just appeared in eight Premier League matches for the Reds.

Prior to being loaned to Hertha Berlin, Grujic had also spent a  short-term season-long loan at Championship outfit Cardiff City. The player had publically stated that he wanted to play for the Reds and knew how difficult a task it would be for him, considering the midfield options Klopp has at his disposal.

In Grujic’s absence at Anfield, players such as Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain have thrived for the Reds and made their impact on Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Grujic admitted to having been inspired by the current Liverpool FC midfielder’s performances and had expressed hope of replicating their success while playing for the Reds.

Michael Preetz, the sporting director of Hertha Berlin, lauded the achievements of the 24-year old Grujic by saying that the performance of the player during his two seasons for the German side were exceptional. He added that the Bundesliga side vowed to respect the loan agreement that had been signed with the Reds and assured the public that Grujic would be heading back to Anfield after 30th June. Preetz claimed that Liverpool FC would be delighted at the return of Grujic amongst their ranks, whom he believes has developed into a more experienced player.

With the departure of Adam Lallana in the summer being imminent for Jurgen Klopp and the Reds squad, the return of Marco Grujic would be a welcome boost for them ahead of next season’s start. The Serbian international is just 24 years old and has plenty of the first-team experience under his belt due to his stint in the Bundesliga. Moreover, the player is a very capable midfielder with excellent tacking ability and going one-on-one with opposition attackers.
