Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin are readying a £13 million offer to sign Marko Grujic this summer from the Reds. The Serbian midfielder has spent two consecutive seasons on loan at the German club, who are now keen on permanently signing the player.
Grujic’s two-year loan stint at Hertha Berlin has proved to be very productive for the midfielder. Unable to get first-team opportunities at Liverpool FC, the Serbian international became a regular starter for the Bundesliga side. The 24-year old has certainly evolved into a much more developed player during his time in Germany.
However, Grujic would still find it extremely difficult to make a foray into the Liverpool FC first-team squad. With an impressive roster of midfield talents at Anfield, the Serbian international is not expected to get feature much for the Reds apart from domestic cup fixtures. Moreover, Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp is open to the idea of selling Grujic this summer to raise funds for his side’s transfer business.
With the Reds’ funds being limited this summer owing to the monetary constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic, fringe players would be sold by the Merseyside club this summer to finance player acquisitions.
Liverpool FC had earlier estimated Grujic’s value to be in the region of £18 million. However, according to speculation, the Reds will now consent to sell the 24-year old for £13 million this summer. The money received from the midfielder’s sale would be at Klopp’s disposal for making moves for long-term targets in the transfer market.
The Serbian international had stated his fondness for Hertha Berlin’s atmosphere and the club’s supporters. Moreover, the 24-year old had voiced his desire of extending his stay at the Bundesliga side beyond the current season. However, Grujic had admitted that a decision over his future will be taken only at the end of the season.
The midfielder racked up 29 league appearances for Hertha Berlin in the 2019-20 Bundesliga campaign. His performances in the club’s midfield have of utmost value towards their 10th place finish in the league standings.
