Massive blow for Liverpool’s Mbappe hopes as PSG open contract talks with the Frenchman

According to recent reports from the Goal, Paris Saint-Germain chief Leonardo has claimed that the Ligue 1 champions have opened contract renewal talks with the star attacking duo of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Mbappe has been rumoured to be high on Liverpool FC’s radar since last summer, and with the World Cup-winning striker’s current deal set to expire in less than two years, Liverpool FC were reportedly hopeful of signing him on a world-record deal.

However, Leonardo’s recent remarks would serve as a warning to any other sides across Europe who were interested in making a move for either of the two PSG star forwards who have been linked with a potential move away from the Paris-based outfit in the forthcoming years.

“Remember that PSG suffered financial losses this year, we’re in a complicated moment and it’s not easy, but we’re talking directly with Mbappe and Neymar.

“There is a question of timing. The idea of an extension exists. We have arrived at the moment when we must have clearer situations.”

The Reds have a number of quality attacking options in their ranks at Anfield, but signing a player of Mbappe’s calibre and future potential would have surely served an indication of Liverpool FC’s growing stature in world football.

However, for now, it seems as if Jurgen Klopp’s hopes of landing Mbappe’s signature at the Merseyside club will not turn into a reality with PSG being increasingly keen on extending their marquee player’s stay at the Parc des Princes.
