Michael Owen expects Liverpool to overcome Arsenal challenge

Former Liverpool FC fan-favourite Michael Owen believes his old side will prevail over Arsenal when the two teams meet in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Thursday.

Arsenal’s visit to Anfield will a second in as many as four days for Mikel Arteta’s men, having played the Reds on Monday in a Premier League game, which turned out to be a 3-1 win for Liverpool FC despite the hosts trailing the Gunners at one point.

While speaking to BetVictor, Owen backed his former club to edge the game in their favour in spite of a much-changed starting XI to be named by both managers prior to kick-off at Anfield.

“Liverpool were the winners in an enthralling encounter at Anfield on Monday and I think we could see more of the same here. Arsenal caused Liverpool a few problems, but the Champions were just too good on the night.”

“Both sides should look different in terms of their starting elevens, and although I can could see Arsenal going close, I think the Reds will edge it.”

Jurgen Klopp is expected to make a number of changes to the eleven that will take the field to face the Gunners, with a number of first-team regulars in Mohammad Salah, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho, and Alisson Becker highly likely to be rested ahead of Sunday’s visit to Aston Villa in the Premier League.
