Midfield star to be offered long-term contract extension by the Reds

Contract rebel Gini Wijnaldum’s future in the Liverpool FC shirt beyond this summer has been a source of continued speculation since the transfer window opened.

The Dutch international was previously expected to seal a move to FC Barcelona following the appointment of ex-Holland boss Ronald Koeman as the manager of the La Liga giants. However, despite contrary reports, the player himself expressed his intention to extend his stay at Anfield.

The Reds, on the other hand, completed the signing of Spanish midfield maestro Thiago Alcantara on a four-year deal. The 29-year old’s addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side gave rise to rumours that Wijnaldum could be allowed to leave Liverpool FC next summer when his current deal expires.

However, it seems as if the Merseyside club are not in a mood to part ways with the Dutchman, especially on a free transfer. Liverpool FC are now tipped to table an improved contract extension for the player in the coming weeks.

Reports suggest that the ex-Newcastle United man will be offered to extend his deal until 2024. Jurgen Klopp is understood to be the driving force behind the decision to not let go of Wijnaldum, keeping in consideration his importance to the Liverpool FC midfield three.
