Liverpool, despite all their problems in the squad due to injuries to some of their star players are doing very well the Premier League and Champions League. It was to everyone’s surprise that Liverpool romped past Wolves who have been good so far in the Premier League. Klopp will take this opportunity to rest his players against Midtjylland to rest his top guns as Liverpool have already been marred with injuries this season.
The likes of Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino and Shaqiri are all very likely to feature tomorrow in the starting lineup. Right-back Alexander-Arnold has come back from injury and played a few minutes against Wolves. Klopp finally has a squad at disposal with options to chose from as he will look to top the Champions League group table.
Let us now have a look at how Jurgen Klopp might set his Liverpool side up against Midtjylland in the final group stage game of the Champions League.
THE 4-2-3-1
The 4-2-3-1 has done wonders for Jurgen Klopp and his men at Liverpool as he has used this system very well. Against minnows Midtjylland, Klopp will be expected to make a lot of changes and give game time to his fringe players, like Minamino and Tsimikas. This game will also be a chance for Klopp to provide game-time to Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita who have recently come back from injuries.
Even though Allison has come back to the squad, young Kelleher might be the one between the sticks for Liverpool this midweek. He has done very well and has earned a place over veteran keeper Adrian, who has been woeful for the Reds. The defence is also very likely to see a host of changes with either one of the centre-backs expected to be a youngster, with either of Williams or Phillips as both have done well to play at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.
Diogo Jota might lead the line for the Reds or it might even be another rare start for Divock Origi. The Belgian has faded away this season and would like to stamp his authority one again and is very likely to have a chance against Midtjylland. Tsimikas hasn’t also made it big since his signing this summer and is expected to start for the Reds to give Robertson a rest.
THE 4-3-3
The only other formation Klopp has used at Liverpool is the 4-3-3 and with this formation, the German can chop and change wit the squad even more. The Reds are devoid of defenders and thus the same players are very likely to play week in and week out in both the Premier League and the Champions League. James Milner has been a great servant of the club and still goes on at right-back or central defensive midfielder.
Curtis Jones and Naby Keita are likely to play as the roaming midfielders in such a formation, with much-needed rest to Henderson and Wijnaldum. The forward-three will be interesting to see in the game as Klopp might rest all four of his strike force but is rather likely to start with Jota, Minamino and Origi against Midtjylland.
