Move for Arsenal youth midfield star eyed by Liverpool

The Premier League champions are keeping tabs on Arsenal starlet Folarin Balogun amid rumours linking the youngster with a move away from the North London outfit. The 19-year old is yet to feature for the Gunners’ first-team squad. However, the midfielder’s deal with Mikel Arteta’s side runs out as soon as the 2020-21 season comes to an end.

According to reports, the Reds are deeply interested in securing Balogun’s signature to bolster their squad depth this summer. However, the Merseyside club could wait until next summer to sign the teenage midfield prospect on a free transfer. The English starlet has reportedly refused multiple contract extensions tabled by the Gunners to further his stay at the club.

With no assurances being given to him concerning first-team involvement in Mikel Arteta’s squad, Balogun is keen on securing a move elsewhere. Despite being a consistent performer for Arsenal’s youth squad, the 19-year old has not got a look in for an opportunity to play for the club’s senior squad.

Balogun has been one of the most important players for Arsenal’s U-23s this season. The midfielder has found the back of the net on 10 occasions in 15 Premier League 2 appearances, besides racking up four assists.

The England U-19 international was subject to great transfer interest from Championship outfit Brentford in January earlier this year. However, Brentford’s attempt to make a move for the Arsenal youngster could not be successful. The Gunners are rumoured to be seeking an offer worth £8 million to let their youth prospect leave the club this summer.

Such a price-tag may be considered a bit inflationary for a teenage midfield star who is yet to feature for his side’s first-team squad. However, the Gunners are reported to value Balogun highly considering his recent exploits in the Premier League 2.

Jurgen Klopp has on many occasions in the recent past admitted to the possibility of Liverpool FC being unable to make big-money moves this summer. The Reds continue to be linked with Spanish playmaker Thiago Alcântara in order to boost their midfield department.
