Naby Keita is set to undergo a further scan on a muscle injury after missing out on Monday night’s Old Trafford showdown against Manchester United.
The Guinea international’s potential spell on the sidelines could add to the injury woes for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who already have Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain already on the sidelines.
Keita is yet to feature this season for Liverpool after having been ill for the Premier League opener away at Fulham and an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace last week.
Facing a further spell on the sidelines, according to a report from The Guardian, Keita’s fitness levels will be closely assessed by the Liverpool medical staff amid rumours of Jurgen Klopp’s interest in bringing in an emergency signing from the transfer window.
The Liverpool head coach has so far insisted that he remains satisfied with his options in the heart of the midfield but the recent woes at Anfield on the injury front tell a different tale.
