Nat Phillips reckons Liverpool will come back stronger in their upcoming outings in the aftermath of being held to yet another frustrating draw, this time at St. James’ Park by Newcastle United.
The 23-year-old Phillips had been handed a rare start in central defence by Jurgen Klopp owing to Joel Matip’s exclusion due to injury, and the Englishman played a vital part in helping the Merseyside visitors keep a clean sheet on their travels away from Anfield.
However, Phillips, while speaking to the club’s official website, spoke about how Liverpool FC endured a frustrating 90 minutes against Steve Bruce’s men, largely due to the inability of Jurgen Klopp’s side to convert their fair share of chances on goal.
“Really frustrating,” said the central defender.
“We felt we created enough [chances] in the game to take three points and get the win.
“But, unfortunately, we just couldn’t convert our chances. It can be like that sometimes in football and we’ve just got to pick ourselves up and go on to the next game.”
He added: “We created a lot more [chances] tonight, which is one positive, but we need to finish off our chances and hopefully we can do that in the next game.”
Liverpool FC’s goalless stalemate against the 14th placed Magpies was their second successive sharing of spoils in league action following last weekend’s Anfield meeting against West Brom ending in a disappointing 1-1 draw.
The recent streak of uninspiring results leaves Klopp’s men just three points ahead of arch-rivals Manchester United in the Premier League standings, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils enjoying the luxury of a game in hand.
