Newcastle United are ignoring the opportunity to sign Liverpool’s Nat Phillips despite the central defender being open to making the move away from Anfield.
The central defender has been heavily linked with an exit from Jurgen Klopp’s side in what remains of the January transfer window following his fall down the pecking order.
Liverpool are looking to pocket a sizable £10 million from Phillips’ sale with no shortage of interest in the 24-year-old’s services as the likes of West Ham United, Burnley and Newcastle United have been tipped to be keeping close tabs on the Liverpool man.
According to reports from The Daily Express, however, it is claimed that The Magpies will not step up their chase for Phillips in the hunt for reinforcements at the back with the boss Eddie Howe suffering setbacks in the pursuit for Diego Carlos and Sven Botman.
Marseille’s Duje Caleta-Car, a player who has emerged on Liverpool’s radar in the recent past, could be on the new name on the wishlist for Howe at Newcastle United in the final days of the transfer window.
