The title defenders have been great this season and are also the on their way to win back-to-back Premier League. But the Reds looked off-colour in their game against West Bromwich Albion but will be re-energized on their travel to Tyne side, where they face struggling Newcastle. Jurgen Klopp will make sure that his side takes all three points away from home as the title chase in the Premier League heats up.
The likes of Naby Keita and Joel Matip have been ruled out of the game and Thiago is still working his way back into the team. The injury concerns have been way too difficult for the Reds and seem to have been taking its toll in the squad. Klopp will have to make several changes to his side from the last time around against Newcastle.
Let us now have a look at how Jurgen Klopp might set his Liverpool side up against Newcastle in the Premier League.
THE 4-3-3
The 4-3-3 has been very successful at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp who has completely stamped his authority on the side. Even without the best of their players out of the contention to play, Klopp has managed to get the results. Mo Salah has been the life of the side as his goals have given Liverpool a lot of points even though they didn’t play very well.
The defence will be under pressure again though with Fabinho and Rhys Williams the most likely centre-back pairing but will be expected to cope-up with it easily. Jordan Henderson works very hard in the defensive midfield role, distributing the ball and shielding the defence from threats of counter-attacks. He has led the side well and hasn’t got a lot of appreciation from the mainstream media due to his work on the pitch.
Curtis Jones and Wijnaldum have been as consistent as ever and should be owning the midfield against Newcastle in the Tyne side. The onus of scoring goals will be on Sadio Mane and Mo Salah as both of the forward players have been on the scoresheet in the recent past. Firmino will be expected to conduct the game up-front as the likes to drift into the midfield.
THE 4-2-3-1
The 4-2-3-1 is the only other option that has been used by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool with the midfield pivot of Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson. The pivot gives Liverpool better defensive shape and allows the full-backs to use their offensive prowess and ability to create chances. Robertson and Alexander-Arnold have been rather quiet this season but will be expected to create a lot of chances against struggling Newcastle.
Liverpool will be expected to win the game but Newcastle will try to replicate what West Brom did the last matchday against the Reds. The 4-2-3-1 is such a formation will allow more players to go forward even more which will increase the chances of scoring. The likes of Salah, Mane and Minamino should have a lot of chances to score which will be enough for Liverpool to take all three points away from home.
