Champions League holders Liverpool have confirmed that Bobby Duncan has been sold to Serie A club Fiorentina earlier today after just one season with the Reds.
Earlier this week, there were strong acquisitions being made against Liverpool for bullying 18-year-old Bobby Duncan and rejecting him a move away from the club in the summer transfer window. Duncan scored 32 goals at the academy level for Liverpool for the U-18’s since arriving from Manchester City.
However, Italian club Fiorentina claimed to have made an offer which was considered rather ‘derisory’ to take Duncan on a loan deal but with no real obligation to buy and no guarantee that the attacker will play regular football.
Duncan’s agent then posted a long message on social media claiming that Liverpool was bullying the youngster at the club and have no respect for him. But Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was quick to come to his players’ defense and stated that everyone at the club rates Duncan in high regard even explaining that they want to keep hold of the player despite interest from Fiorentina.
But that changed when Fiorentina returned with another offer to take Duncan off Liverpool’s shoulders in a €2 million deal and the Premier League side obliged. The 18-year-old striker Duncan will now make play his football in Italy with Fiorentina as his move was finalized on the final day of the European transfer window.
Liverpool decided against keeping Duncan at Anfield after his reputation and image was slightly hindered with the ongoing drama between the club and player.
