Official- Clube Brugge Sign Simon Mignolet

Belgian shot-stopper Simon Mignolet has officially left Premier League outfit, Liverpool, to join Club Brugge on a five year earlier deal this week.

During his six-year spell at the Merseyside club, Mignolet never really managed to establish himself as a fan favorite at the Liverpool enduring a torrid time between the sticks. The goalkeeper arrived at Anfield from Sunderland back in the summer of 2013 in a £9 million deal and impressed in his maiden season as Liverpool finished 2nd on the Premier League table.

However, after a fairly decent start to his life at Liverpool, Mignolet became a frustrating player because of his error-prone nature on a regular basis. Jurgen Klopp then decided to sign Loris Karius back in 2016 to replace Mignolet and the duo shared game time between the posts. Even the German keeper wasn’t able to deliver the goods for Liverpool and made some costly errors in the Champions League final in 2018 and therefore Klopp made a big splash last summer transfer window to recruit Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian has completely kept any other competitors for a starting berth far away from his reach and helped Liverpool to Champions League success last term, even winning the Golden Glove in the process. But this meant the end of the line for Mignolet despite rumors circling that he would remain at Anfield no matter if he played second fiddle.

But the 31-year-old goalkeeper has now decided to move on and return to his native to join Club Brugge in a £6.4 million deal.  It makes perfect sense for Mignolet to play regular football as a starter at the Jan Breydel Stadium as he enters the twilight years of his career.

Mignolet made 204 appearances for Liverpool across six years at Anfield and leaves with a Champions League medal to his name as well.
