Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has officially won the FIFA Best Coach of the year after a stellar season with the Merseyside club it was announced in Milan on Monday night.
Last season, Klopp guided Liverpool to their best-ever season in the Premier League as the Reds notched up a staggering 97 points in the campaign which was the best ever since the club was formed way back in 1892. But that was still not enough to win Liverpool the Premier League title as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City pipped Klopp’s unit to the elusive title by just one single point. However, if silverware is the currency in football, Liverpool managed to hit the jackpot as they won the prestigious Champions League title in May by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final in May.
Liverpool suffered heartbreak in the Champions League final prior to last year as they lost to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the European tournament but after overcoming a fantastic Barcelona team in the semifinal this term it was all for Klopp to lose.
And Liverpool has also managed to carry that momentum into the new season as they are the only team in England’s top flight to win six out of their six opening games in the Premier League. Although the Reds lost the FA Community Shield to Manchester City on penalties, the Reds beat West London outfit Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup last month to keep the trophies incoming at Anfield.
Klopp has been at the heart of everything for Liverpool as he has built this team since his appointment in 2015 and done some superb business as well in terms of recruitment. The 52-year-old won the Best Coach award ahead of Premier League rival managers Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino and he was delighted with accepting the accolades.
