Liverpool forward Divock Origi has officially signed a new contract extension with the Premier League side earlier today.
The Belgian forward scored the decisive second goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the final which won Liverpool the European trophy. Origi also took down Barcelona by netting a brace in the unbelievable comeback that Liverpool produced against the Catalonians after being 3-0 down to win 4-0 at Anfield in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals.
Origi signed for Liverpool back in 2014 from French club Lille on a £10 million transfer deal and out of the 28 goals that he has scored in 98 appearances for the club, some of them have been extremely important to Liverpool’s success.
Despite his contract expiring in the summer, Origi was set to leave Liverpool as he is not tipped to genuinely bolster the team and improve the team to get them to the next level. But talks of an exit from Melwood have disappeared after Origi signed a long term contract with Liverpool which will keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.
Post signing his new deal Origi explained that he always wanted to remain at Liverpool because something special in brewing at the club, “The feeling was always that I wanted to stay, there is something special going on here”
The 24 year old attacker then went on to state his ambition about trying to grow, progress and maximize his ability with each passing day, “[I want] to keep progressing and trying to maximize the potential and talent I have each and every day, At the end of my career I want to sit back and be proud that I used all of my gifts and talents. I think the next years are going to be very special – prime years, maybe – and I’m going to try to use them to the fullest.”
