Ozan Kabak deal still on for Liverpool, says Schalke sporting director

Despite the Reds’ reportedly cooling their interest in signing Turkish international Ozan Kabak in January, FC Schalke sports director Jochen Schneide has claimed that the highly-rated centre-back could be sold by the Bundesliga club when the winter transfer window reopens.

Schneider claimed in an interview to WAZ that the German side were facing a lot of difficulties on the financial side of their club’s activities, and selling Kabak could very well be a viable option for them, keeping in mind a keen interest in the player from abroad.

“I’ve only read what has been written in the last ten days.

“We are still in economically challenging times, which you can see from the fact that this season may have to be played to the end without any spectators.

“I cannot and do not want to rule out anything.”

Kabak was rumoured to be high on Liverpool FC’s radar in the coming months after injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho left the Premier League champions in dire need of defensive reinforcements at the heart of the backline.

However, recent reports had indicated that Jurgen Klopp could be inclined to use the current options at his disposal, such as Nathaniel Phillips or Rhys Willaims, rather than make a move for the 20-year-old Kabak in January.
