Paul Mariner Believes That Christian Pulisic Should Join Liverpool In The Winter

Former Arsenal superstar Paul Mariner has revealed that Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic should snub a move to Chelsea and opt for Liverpool instead.

Liverpool is currently enjoying a great start to the Premier League season as Jurgen Klopp’s men have won nine out of their 12 games and are yet to be beaten in the league. The Reds look like the only club who can rival Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the Premier League title this term and they will also be looking to make a splash in the winter transfer window.

Klopp signed Xherdan Shaqiri from relegated side Stoke City in the summer transfer window and the Swiss international may have looked like a gamble after his performances for the Potters the last term. However, after a relatively slow start to life under the German manager, Shaqiri looks like he is benefitting from Klopp’s guidance as he is playing an integral part for Liverpool’s title push.

And Paul Mariner has revealed that he feels like Dortmund wonder kid Christian Pulisic can also take his game to the next level if the American youngster moves to Liverpool in the winter transfer window.

While speaking as a pundit on ESPN FC, the 65-year-old Englishman spoke out on how Klopp has gotten the best out of Shaqiri, ”Let’s look at Shaqiri, Shaqiri was a bit of an eyebrow raiser – ‘why has he signed Shaqiri?’. Shaqiri can be a little bit in and out, he’s not the most consistent of footballers. He’s obviously sat him down and said ‘listen, mate, if you want to play in this team, you’ve got to do A, B, C, D, E, F and so on and so forth’.”

Mariner then went on to explain that Pulisic could be the same player who can grow under the former Dortmund manager, “And he is, everybody’s saying now maybe Shaqiri should be coming into the lineup. If Pulisic was to go to Liverpool, the nurturing and the way that Klopp puts his arm around players, I think it would be a fabulous move for him.”

Pulisic could be another great player for Liverpool who can come off the bench to impact football matches. But with all this firepower, Liverpool need to focus on their defensive approach as well in order to close off games.
