Former Blackburn Rovers shot-stopper Paul Robinson has played down Liverpool’s chances of signing Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo in the January transfer window.
Caicedo, who was linked with a move to Anfield in the summer, has courted interest from some of the biggest clubs across England with Chelsea and Manchester United joining Liverpool in the chase for the midfield talent.
Robinson, however, while speaking to Football Insider, appears unconvinced that Jurgen Klopp’s side have a chance of landing the 20-year-old starlet in the New Year following a change in Brighton’s manager and the forthcoming FIFA World Cup later this year.
“No chance. That is not a January deal.
“Brighton are not in a situation where they need to sell players. We saw that with [Marc] Cucurella. They demanded an astronomical price.
“They will want to give the manager time to assess his squad and his players and do what he wants in January.
“The World Cup is only two months away. [Roberto] De Zerbi does not have much time to assess his squad. I cannot see there being any major outgoings.
“They might bring in players that the manager wants but I cannot see a player like Caicedo leaving.”
Liverpool have been on the hunt for a quality midfield signing since the turn of the year and the summer window saw the Reds make emergency recruitment in the form of Juventus man Arthur Melo.
Melo’s arrival on deadline day, in a season-long loan deal, is tipped to be a short-term fix for Liverpool’s injury hit midfield roster with Klopp likely to scout other names on his shortlist.
