The Spanish midfielder has spent seven seasons in the Red shirt and has mainly appeared for the Liverpool FC youth teams.
Failure to make an impact on the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp and lack of the first-team opportunities are the reasons believed to be behind Chirivella’s departure from the Merseyside club.
The 23-year old’s contract with the Reds will expire shortly on 30th June, following which the player will move to France and play for mid-table side Nantes.
The former Spanish U-17 international has appeared in just 11 first-team games for the Reds during the course of his seven-year stay at Liverpool FC. The presence of midfield stalwarts like Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho, and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has prevented Chirivella from making a foray into the first-team squad and cement his place in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the future.
There had been some speculation in the past concerning Chirivella’s stay at Anfield beyond the expiry of his contract with many teams across Europe interested in securing his services in the summer.
The 2019-20 season has seen Chirivella make a considerable impact on the Reds squad due to the player captaining the young Liverpool FC squad that faced Aston Villa FC in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
The absence of the senior Reds squad due to the FIFA Club World Cup obligations in Qatar led to Chirivella leading an inexperienced Liverpool FC squad in the cup tie which resulted in a 5-0 loss for the Merseyside club. Afterwards, the 23-year old midfielder also started FA Cup ties against Everton FC and Shrewsbury Town.
Chirivella had earlier served loan spells away from Anfield at Willem II and Extremadura before joining up with the Reds squad and becoming one of the important U-23 squad players. In a Twitter post, the Reds confirmed Chirivella’s impending departure in the summer and wished him the best of luck for his future endeavours.
