Pep Guardiola States That Liverpool Are His Toughest Opponents

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has claimed that Liverpool is the strongest opponents that he has ever faced in his career as a manager.

The Premier League champions suffered a shock 3-2 defeat against Norwich City last weekend and have fallen five points behind Jurgen Klopp’s team while the Reds have won five out of their opening five games in the English top flight. Manchester City City has broken plenty of records over the past two seasons and is looking to be crowned champions of England for a third time in a row but Liverpool is trying their best to dethrone Guardiola’s team.

Last season, Liverpool endured their most fruitful campaign ever since the club was formed back in 1892 as they recorded a staggering 97 points however they were still not crowned as champions as Manchester City edged them by a single point. But Guardiola has admitted that Liverpool is his strongest rivals in the league and has admired Jurgen Klopp for the work he is doing at Anfield.

The former Barcelona coach spoke ahead of Saturday’s game against Watford and admitted his admiration for Liverpool as Klopp’s team are the strongest opponents he has ever come across, “You have to understand what we have done in the past does not ensure you can do it tomorrow or the day after, The opponents we have, I’ve said many times, are the strongest opponents I have faced in my career as a manager – Liverpool. These are not weak words. I said it when they were in front, I said it when we were in front; when we won and we lose. They have absolutely everything in terms of a positional game, counter-attack, set pieces, transitions, offensive, defensive and mentality. Anfield the stadium – many things. I know how difficult it was, how difficult it is and how difficult it will be.”
