Ex-Liverpool superstar Peter Crouch has revealed that every football fan would love to see their manager reach the way in which Jurgen Klopp did after Divock Origi’s goal in the Merseyside derby.
Anfield erupted last week when Belgian forward Divock Origi came off the bench to score a dramatic late injury-time winner against local rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby. The win helped Liverpool keep their close two-point difference against leaders Manchester City who seem unlikely to drop any silly points during the course of the season.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was unable to control his delight as he ran onto the pitch to celebrate Origi’s winner. The German manager ran towards goalkeeper Alisson Becker near the center of the pitch and celebrated with the Brazilian giving him a big hug.
There was a lot of people who believed that Klopp should have been punished for his actions and disrespect towards the Everton bench and this debate has continued for quite a while now. The FA decided to slap Klopp with a £8000 fee and not a touchline ban.
However, former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has stated that Klopp celebration was uncalled for, the 37-year-old who plays for Stoke City said to the Daily Mail, “How could they charge him?, I asked myself that question when I heard Jurgen Klopp had got a call from the FA”.
Crouch added that he watched the game and found Klopp’s reaction hilarious, “I watched the Merseyside derby and, given I will always have a foot in the Liverpool camp, I loved what I saw in the final minute. As Klopp went tearing on to the pitch to jump on Alisson, my first reaction was to burst out laughing. Spontaneity is one of the many things I love about football. I played in enough derbies to know what is at stake. We beat Everton 3-1 home and away in my first season at Liverpool and the noise at Anfield was unreal, so it was always going to be bedlam when Divock Origi hit the winner.
The former England international then explained, “Forget about Klopp for a minute and be honest. If your team’s manager reacted in that way after you had just scored a vital goal, you’d love it. Don’t say you wouldn’t. We want our managers to feel what we’re feeling and Liverpudlians saw that from Klopp”
Klopp needs to be careful because even a manager needs to follow certain rules and regulations during the course of ninety minutes of a football game.
