Second-half strikes from Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi helped ensure the win for Liverpool against Preston North End on Tuesday in the EFL Cup Round of 16 fixture.

The visitors got the match underway on the front foot but were unable to break down the Preston backline which consisted of the Liverpool loanee Sepp van den Berg.
Preston turned up their gears on the attacking front and Liverpool’s man between the sticks Adrian had to be called into action to deny Brad Potts.
Joe Gomez was caught out in possession and the resulting attack put together by the hosts had the ability to cause trouble for Jurgen Klopp’s men but Adrian had a point-blank save to make to keep the scoreline level.
Both sides headed into the half-time break at nil-nil but it was early on in the second period that Liverpool enjoyed a stellar show in front of the goal.
Takumi Minamino got himself at the end of a Neco Williams delivery to prod home his finish past Preston shot-stopper Liam Lindsay and make it 1-0 for the visitors.
In the dying embers of the game with a little more than five minutes to play for it was Divock Origi who produced a majestic flick to double the advantage for Jurgen Klopp’s men who now through to the last-eight of the competition.
