Raphinha’s agent confirms Liverpool were interested in his client this summer amid speculation growing that Jurgen Klopp was eyeing up a move for the Leeds United star forward.
The Brazilian attacker has been a hit at Elland Road since his move to England and has courted attention from some of the biggest clubs in the land including Liverpool.
Klopp has been on the lookout for a fresh face for his forward lineup since the summer window and Raphinha, on the back of his breakout debut campaign in West Yorkshire, had caught the eye of the Liverpool manager.
The rumours have now been confirmed by the player’s agent himself, former Barcelona and Chelsea man Deco, who while speaking to Globo Esporte credited Liverpool with an interest in landing Raphinha’s signature in the summer.
Deco, however, added that Leeds United were keen on retaining their star forward man for another season with the player seen as key to the club’s attacking fortunes following a shaky start to the 2021-22 campaign for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
“Raphinha has become an important player in the Premier League, the club knows he has grown and things will happen naturally.”
“He’s young, he has many challenges ahead, there are certainly several clubs that like him, and Liverpool do like him, there were approaches, but nothing official.
“Leeds wanted to keep him for another season.”
