As Jurgen Klopp’s men were pitted against Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in the Last-16 of the UEFA Champions League following Monday’s draw, the latter’s sporting director Markus Krosche has claimed that the German club should not be written off against handing a shock result to the Merseyside Reds.
Leipzig sealed their entry in the Last-16 of the Champions League after coming second in their group, largely on the back of a 3-2 win over Manchester United in the final group stage fixture last week.
Liverpool FC, meanwhile, endured a fairly easy journey on their way to the Round of 16, and a sole loss to Atalanta at Anfield did not come as a major blow to Klopp’s side’s chances of ensuring their fate in the further stages of Europe’s elite club competition.
Krosche, as quoted by German news outlet RTL, admitted that the Reds do possess quality talent in their ranks to pose a tough challenge to RB Leipzig, however, he stated that his team would give their best on the pitch to come out on top despite being labelled as the underdogs to the Premier League holders.
“Our potential opponents were all great clubs who have won a lot in the past.
“It will be difficult, no doubt, to face the current English champions: they are doing very well this season too.
“On the other hand, no one really believed that we would get through the group with PSG and Manchester United. We did well in the group stage and we will do everything we can to beat Liverpool and move on to the quarter-finals.”
