Rhys Williams hoping to make mark on Liverpool future with recent performences

Making the most of recent first-team opportunities is of paramount importance to 19-year-old Rhys Williams, said the young Liverpool FC centre-back following Jurgen Klopp’s side storming to a 5-0 away victory over Atalanta in the Champions League.

Williams was given his first full start for the Reds’ senior squad in the Champions League against their Italian opponents, and he stepped up to the responsibility bestowed upon his young shoulders by displaying a solid showing at the back.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the match, the Liverpool FC academy graduate voiced his gratitude towards Klopp for trusting him with first-team chances over the last couple of weeks, and Williams vowed to repay the Liverpool FC boss’s faith in him as the Reds’ continue to ponder over current centre-back options in the aftermath of injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho.

“Well, I was hoping for an opportunity but I wasn’t hoping for it as good as this!

“It doesn’t get much better than a 5-0 away win to Atalanta, so I’m over the moon really.

“I’m happy the boss trusts me and I’m going to keep repaying his faith with performances and nights like this, so hopefully I keep getting an opportunity and keep doing everyone proud.

“I want to become an irreplaceable piece of this side. It’s a great team with great players.

“I know it’s going to be hard but I’m willing to put the effort in, keep working and hopefully keep putting in performances when I get the chance.”

Williams looks all set for a highly promising future at Anfield, if we are to go by the recent standards of defensive showings exhibited by the England U21 international, and Klopp would take great pride in the fact that he has played a major role in uplifting the teenage starlet’s confidence to progress further in the coming years.
