Rio Ferdinand likens Jurgen Klopp to ex-Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson

Jurgen Klopp’s recent widespread criticism of the intense fixture list for his side has lead to ex-England defender Rio Ferdinand compare the German to the legendary Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson.

Following Liverpool FC’s 1-1 draw away at Brighton over the past weekend, Klopp in his post-game interview to BT Sport, sought to speak out against the congested scheduling of games awaiting the Merseysiders in the month of December.

According to Klopp, an ever-increasing pile of injury troubles to first-team regulars in the Liverpool FC squad has been attributed to the fitness problems brought on about by the intense fixture list.

Ferdinand, a pundit for BT Sport, in light of Klopp’s remarks, compared the Liverpool FC’s boss’s recent antics in front of the camera as an attempt to ward off any pressure surrounding his players, a quality that Ferdinand noted was present in former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson as well.

‘Sometimes he’d (Ferguson) do a team talk after a game and be as calm as you like and then he’d go out for an interview and we’d see him on the TV screen and he would be going bananas about a decision no-one had even thought about,’ he said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

‘But that took the spotlight off someone else or something else that could derail us. He controlled the narrative and I think that’s what Klopp is doing very well at the moment.

‘Maybe sometimes he’s talking about stuff outside of that (game) which can take away from the performance or the little creaks that happen within the 90 minutes.’
