Injury Update

Roberto Firmino in line for a month-long spell on sidelines with hamstring blow

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino is in line for a month-long spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury sustained in the win over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

The Brazil international picked up the injury in the midweek contest at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp sounded out fears that the player was set for a lengthy period of recovery with a ‘serious injury’, according to reports from BBC.

“We are talking weeks, still. More than four. I’d consider that a serious injury.”

Firmino’s addition to the recovery table list will come as a major blow to Jurgen Klopp who lacks serious firepower in his attacking roster besides the star likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Diogo Jota has emerged as a viable option to be drafted in the forward roles and the Portugal international will be in the running for a starting berth come Sunday when Liverpool make the travels to the English capital to face West Ham United.

With Klopp set to lose Salah and Mane to the forthcoming African Cup of Nations in January, the Liverpool boss will struggle to find quality options within his ranks to fill in for the forward pairing who have been immense early on this new season.
