Roberto Firmino is reported to be sidelined from Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City for Thursday night’s EFL Cup contest with a calf injury.
According to a report from The Athletic, it is claimed that Firmino will be sitting out the Etihad showdown between Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
It is said that the Brazil international could also be deemed a fitness concern for Liverpool’s Boxing Day trip to Aston Villa in the Premier League as the Merseysiders resume their top flight campaign after a lengthy break due to the FIFA World Cup.
Firmino’s absence from the Anfield fold is sure to escalate worries on the injury front for Jurgen Klopp whose front line options have been depleted by the loss of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz with the latter set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
There is hope that the Liverpool boss could dip into the market for a short-term signing to reinforce his attacking ranks when the transfer window reopens for business in the coming weeks.
