Roberto Firmino’s big-time experience in the Liverpool FC shirt should be the key reason behind in his inclusion over Diogo Jota in the XI to take the field against Manchester City, expressed former Red Danny Murphy.
The Brazillian’s place in the Liverpool FC XI is by no means a mere guarantee as of now, with Jota’s brilliant form in front of the goal leading to the Merseyside club supporters wanting to see more of the Portuguese international.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s attack line can only accommodate either one of both star forwards, which has led to speculation that Firmino’s spot as a false 9 is under great threat following the success of Jota.
Murphy, meanwhile, backed Firmino to get over his lack of goalscoring returns in recent games, as the ex-Liverpool FC midfielder believes the Brazilian adds much more to the Reds’ style of play than just finding the back of the net.
“We are nowhere near a situation where Roberto Firmino should be dropped for Liverpool ’s biggest games, even though he has scored only three goals in 30 games.
“No doubt, that’s a disappointing record but it’s not as important when the team is winning.
“Despite the Brazilian netting just 12 times last season, the bigger picture for Jurgen Klopp is that he contributed hugely to Liverpool winning the championship.
“They were also top of the table going into this weekend’s fixtures with Firmino working and creating rather than scoring.
“I can see why new signing Diogo Jota is receiving praise after his midweek Champions League hat-trick, said Murphy as quoted by the Daily Mirror.
With Liverpool FC’s upcoming visit to the Etihad Stadium, it would be interesting to see what changes does Klopp decide to make in his starting XI, with a number of predicted lineups tipping Jota to start over the under-fire Firmino.
