Jurgen Klopp was lavish in his praise for Roberto Firmino while speaking in great detail about the Brazillian forward’s growing importance to the Liverpool FC side.
Firmino, who has often come under the scanner in recent times due to the lack of his goalscoring returns for the Reds, finally got his name on the scoresheet against Leicester City on Sunday, capping off a brilliant individual performance with a well-deserved goal.
And Klopp, who has defended the Brazillian international many times this season in the face of public criticism over his misfiring form in front of the goal, insisted that Firmino’s importance to the Merseysiders was always well known within the club’s camp.
“Scoring was always important for Bobby,” said Klopp to Liverpoolfc.com.
“But Bobby is a complete footballer. A football team is like an orchestra – you have different people for different instruments. Some of them are louder than others, but they are all important for the rhythm.
“Bobby plays like 12 instruments in our orchestra! He’s very important for our rhythm. We can play well without him as well, but I certainly want him on the pitch and if you look at the numbers, I like it a lot having him on the pitch. He is really awesome.
“Obviously the players read newspapers, unfortunately, and they saw there was some criticism, so they were really happy for him to score.”
With his headed effort going past Kasper Schmeichel into the back of the net on Sunday afternoon at Anfield, Firmino brought up only his second goal this season in the Liverpool FC colours.
However, it is expected of the quality forward to bring up his goalscoring numbers going ahead, as last weekend’s display from the 29-year-old proved that he still is on the top of his game even if critics would not agree to the same.
