In the build-up to the crunch Premier League meeting at Anfield on Wednesday between Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspurs, ex-Red and now a pundit for Sky Sports, Graeme Souness, believes that Sadio Mane edges out the in-form Spurs forward Son Heung-min in terms of quality on the pitch.
Son has been in superb form since the start of the 2020-21 season, with the South Korean international netting ten goals in league action and forming a fantastic attacking combine alongside skipper Harry Kane, who has been equally prolific in front of the goal.
However, Souness, in a chat with The Times, says that Liverpool FC gaffer Jurgen Klopp would be more inclined towards fielding Mane rather than Son in his preferred attacking lineup should the German have such an opportunity.
“Liverpool are the real deal in every department and Spurs are still a long way off that.
“The only Spurs player who would get in Liverpool’s line-up is Kane, because Sadio Mane can do everything Son can, and will also go to war with you.
Souness’s remarks do come as a surprise to many, mainly due to the recent streak of uninspiring form showcased by Mane for the Merseysiders across all competitions.
Despite a strong start to the campaign, the Senegalese forward has been enduring somewhat of a goalless duck which he would be surely hoping to break when he goes up against Jose Mourinho’s table-topping side come Wednesday.
