Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has explained that Sadio Mane has a hamstring injury but the Reds do not yet know the extent of the problem which could keep the Senegalese out for a few games.
The 27-year-old winger went off in the first half of the Premier League leaders’ 2-1 victory at the Molineaux Stadium against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday.
Mane pulled up when running for a pass from Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah and was replaced by Japanese international Takumi Minamino 33 minutes into the game.
Klopp hoped that Mane’s injury is not too serious but will wait until further checks can be carried out on Friday to determine how many games the African attacker will be out until.
While speaking to BBC Sport after the win against Wolves the 52-year-old Klopp explained that it was a real shame for Mane to hobble off the pitch but hoping for the best. “Sadio, it’s a real shame he had to go off, hopefully, it’s not too bad, just a muscle tweak, but we will see tomorrow.”
He further stated that mane felt something in his hamstring but still wasn’t certain about his star forward, “He felt something in the hamstring. We don’t know yet; we have to wait.”
Mane has already scored 13 goals this season and has been imperative to Liverpool’s successful campaign so far making a vital part of Klopp’s attack.
Liverpool club captain Jordan Henderson opened the scoring for the visitors but it was canceled out by Raul Jimenez’ header and Wolves looked to be heading for what would have been a deserved point but Roberto Firmino’s late goal earned all three points for the Merseyside giants in the 84th minute.
