Sadio Mane passes huge verdict on Liverpool’s faltering title hopes

The Premier League crown is now out of Liverpool’s hands, admits the Reds star forward Sadio Mane while outlining the club’s hopes of securing the UEFA Champions League title.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit have fallen 19 points behind table-toppers Manchester City in what has been a major slump in form witnessed by the Merseysiders, with last weekend’s derby defeat meaning that Liverpool FC were on a four-game-long losing run in top-flight football.

Mane, while speaking to ESPN Brasil, admitted that Manchester City’s unrivalled domination had made them the favourites to secure the league title before asserting that the Reds were focused on achieving a top-four finish besides giving their best to be crowned the Champions of Europe.

“First of all, before the end of the season I think, not only me, but every single player in the squad has targets.

“It’s the same for the club, Our target from the beginning was [winning] the Champions League, the Premier League and also cup games.

“And now, I can say it’s over for the Premier League…it’s too much.

“In our head, our self-belief, it’s always ‘never give up’, and we won’t give up, but for sure, Manchester City are a good team and they’re flying.

“Beyond the top four is now, right now, our main target. But the Champions League, that is our main, main, main target.

“To win it, not be second, but it won’t be easy.

Liverpool FC have put one step forward into the quarter-finals of the Champions League courtesy of their first-leg win over RB Leipzig last week.

The Reds will play hosts to the German club on 10 March at Anfield in the second leg of the Last-16 tie as Jurgen Klopp’s side battle it out amongst the continent’s best teams to progress to the final scheduled to take place in Istanbul on 29 May.
