Salah reacts to breaking Liverpool record in the Champions League

With his goal in the very first minute of the Liverpool clash away at FC Midtjylland, Mohammad Salah became the Merseysider’s highest-scoring player in the UEFA Champions League, breaking the previous record held by club legend Steven Gerrard.

Salah’s 22nd European goal in the Reds shirt took him past Gerrard’s tally of 21, with the former’s strike having put Jurgen Klopp’s side in the lead, only for the hosts to level back in the second half as the game finished 1-1.

In an interview to BT Sport after the match, Salah was delighted on having put his name in the Liverpool FC history books, however, the forward did emphasise on the team getting the best result regardless of personal accolades coming his way.

“It’s a great feeling, of course, to be the top scorer for the club [in the Champions League], something I’m proud of.

“I need to keep going like that and scoring more goals and make the gap maybe bigger between me and the others!

“But I’m trying all the time to score goals just to help the team to win games – that’s the most important thing.”

The 28-year-old attacker has been in fine form this season for the Anfield giants, and with his nine goals in the Premier League, leads the goalscoring charts for Klopp’s men.
