Liverpool FC great Jamie Carragher feels that the in-demand Mohammad Salah may not get his dream move to Real Madrid this summer due to the forward’s increasing age, coupled with the fact that Zinedine Zidane’s side no longer boasts of huge finances to pull off such a transfer.
Salah has been reported to be desirous of sealing a move to Spain in the summer, with both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid understood to be in the mix to sign the Egyptian international should Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC side relent to parting ways with their attacking star.
However, Carragher reckons that Real Madrid might no longer be keen on making an approach for Salah owing to the forward now being 28 years old and the La Liga champions may look towards younger options in the transfer market, notably long-term target Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund first-teamer Erling Haaland.
“Mo Salah is definitely one of those players who would look at his career and maybe want Barcelona or Real Madrid on his CV,” Carragher said, as quoted by the Express.
“Some players look at their career like that. I think Eden Hazard always wanted to go to Real Madrid at some stage.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if a few years ago, when Mo Salah was mapping his career out, that is something he would like to have done.
“But I think the situation now – financially and his age – means clubs don’t have that kind of money for him.
“You are talking in excess of £100million and I think Real Madrid and Barcelona would be looking at Mbappe or Haaland or even Mane ahead of Salah now because of his age.
“Those two clubs are not flush with money and his contract still has some time to run at Liverpool.
“So I’m not fearful as a Liverpool fan that he is going to leave any time soon.”
The Reds continue on to rely on Salah for their fortunes on the pitch when going forward as the ex-Chelsea forward’s 13 goals so far this season in top-flight football puts him on top of the goalscoring charts, in the fray to nab a third Premier League Golden Boot in what would be just his fourth year for the Anfield giants.
