Reported Liverpool transfer target for the upcoming winter transfer window, Malick Thiaw, has spoken about recent speculation linking him with an Anfield switch, with the teenage central defender saying that he is flattered at being chased by a club of Liverpool FC’s stature.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, when quizzed upon Liverpool FC’s reported interest in signing the 19-year-old centre-back, the Schalke starlet insisted that he was quite certain of continuing his stay at the Bundesliga club, but was nevertheless delighted on Jurgen Klopp’s side keeping tabs on his progress.
‘Of course you’re happy when big clubs are after you,’ he told Schalke TV.
‘But it was actually clear to me that I would stay at Schalke.’
With the Reds reeling in unfortunate circumstances owing to long-term injury problems to both Virgil van Dijk as well as Joe Gomez, it was fallen upon Jurgen Klopp to make additional signings in January to bolster his side’s defensive ranks ahead of a tough-looking fixture list across all competitions.
What is interesting is that Thiaw is not the only centre-back from Schalke that Liverpool FC have on their radar, with Turkish international Ozan Kabak another one of the German club’s prized young talents that has reportedly propped up on Klopp’s shopping list as the forthcoming winter transfer window nears its commencement.
